Designed to pay for imperative medical services for people aged 65 and above, having Medicare Advantage is just as essential as health insurance. Medicare can also cover disabled individuals that are beneficiaries of social security administration.

A traditional Medicare plan consists of various parts that make up for its multiple coverages. Part A pays for hospital care services, and Part B that's entailed for medical services and equipment. Also, traditional medicare plans usually have Part D, which covers prescription drugs for your medical needs.
Introduction to Medicare Advantage
Medicare Advantage, which is often referred to as Medicare Part C or MA Plans, carries various coverages that are not included in the traditional plans. Usually, private companies certified by the Centers from Medicaid and Medicare Services have Medical Advantage plans in their list of offers. While Medicare Advantage would more or less replace Part A and Part B, its coverages are built to extend its benefits to compensate.

Medicare Advantage Plan Types
Medicare Advantage plans are designed to specialize in each specific plan. It has different types that are mainly classified as a Health Maintenance Organization or Preferred Provider Organization.

The benefits, coverages, terms, rules, and restrictions of each Medical Advantage plan vary accordingly. Contrary to traditional Medicare that simply allows clients to receive service or treatment to any doctor or hospital that fits their medicare terms, the Medicare Advantage only covers what's indicated for a particular health provider or doctor.
  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO)
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO)
  • Special Needs Plans (SNPs)
  • Private Fee For Service Plan (PPFS)
  • Medical Savings Account (MSA)
  • HMO Point-of-Service Plan (HMO-POS)

Medigap
A similar feature of Medical Advantage, which typically offers lower premiums, is the Medigap considered under Medicare Supplement. Medigap and Medicare Advantage shouldn't confuse people as the former can be added to traditional Medicare but isn't applicable to combine with Medicare Advantage.

Choosing the Best Plan for You
As stated earlier, Medical Advantage is only exclusive to a particular area, region, or healthcare provider, unlike those of Medicare and Medigap. There are some aspects to take note of when you select the appropriate plan for your Medicare plan which includes:
  • If you want additional services at a reasonable price and less cost, opt for Medicare Advantage
  • Assess your most likely health care costs to determine if what you need is Medigap or Medicare Advantage
  • Medicare Advantage plan is more of exclusivity while Medigap and Medicare are more inclusive, but it takes evaluation to know what you need.

Conclusion
There is a wide array of plans that can help you with your healthcare costs, part of which includes Medicare Advantage plans. While some may offer premiums at a much lower price, it's still vital to assess if your health permits the particular plan you'll choose.
